PSFK's Smart Office Reduces Energy Consumption Through Gamification
Cadhla Gray — September 26, 2015 — Art & Design
PSFK is always looking to the future for efficient innovation and its imaginative smart office project is no different. The project called "Office of Tomorrow" uses time-signifying lights, smart connected pens and gamifies energy use in its adaptive work environment.
Monitoring energy use and consumption is of growing importance in offices for both environmental and economic reasons. PSFK came up with gamified office pods that glow red to represent high energy consumption or green to signify low. This information is also displayed on a webpage, creating a competition between coworkers to reduce power use.
Another aspect in the smart office is subtle fading lights inside of meeting rooms that signify the amount of time passed in order to stay on track and ensure efficient use of time. Finally, a connected pen with a flat screen would give people the ability to send a quick message or important social update without pulling out a distracting phone.
