Garmin Recently Introduced the Descent S1 Smart Buoy
References: prnewswire
Garmin's Descent S1 Smart Buoy is an innovative device designed to enhance safety and communication for divers and surface crews. This compact, rugged buoy utilizes the brand's SubWave sonar networking technology to facilitate real-time tracking and messaging between divers and their support teams.
By integrating with compatible Garmin dive computers and the Descent T2 transceiver, the smart buoy allows surface crews to monitor up to eight divers simultaneously, tracking their depth, location, and tank pressure while also enabling preset message exchanges. Divers, on the other hand, benefit from improved situational awareness, as they can view the buoy’s distance and direction. Additionally, the system extends underwater communication range between divers up to 100 meters, a feature particularly useful for coordinated dives or emergencies. Post-dive, users can review detailed heatmaps via the Garmin Dive app to analyze their underwater routes.
