These Chinese Towers Pay Tribute to An Erstwhile Village

World-renowned architecture firm MVRDV is working on an impressive new skyscraper development in the Chinese city of Chengdu, with this particular project standing out due to the manner in which it imbues sustainable design and modern functionality into a trio of towers.
The 'Chengdu Jiaozi Courtyard Towers' will include a trio of towers that will touch heights of 80, 100 and 130 meters respectively. The towers will also host a central courtyard that will contain a number of smaller structures that pay homage to the village that used to be located at the site as early as 20 years ago, with wood and recycled materials to be used liberally.
Jacob van Rijs, founding partner over at MVRDV, noted that the 'Chengdu Jiaozi Courtyard Towers' represented a marvellous opportunity to contribute to a burgeoning new business district while paying homage to the area's recent past. "With that in mind, we decided to create a historic world within. Seeing this while surrounded by three new towers, you become aware of the rapid transition that this place has gone through," van Rijs noted.
