Educational Sketching Workshops

'Sketch Lap' is a Conference That Promotes Learning Through Art

'Sketch Lab' is a three-day workshop in San Jose, Costa Rica that centers around the different uses sketching can provide.

The conference attempts to teach participants that sketching can be used as visual communication and a precursor to many design opportunities. The three-day event begins with a quick how-to-sketch tutorial before the organizers go into more detail.

Some other takeaways Sketch Lap include assessing the possible psychological effects a type of sketch may have. For example when brainstorming, we may feel like jotting down notes will not affect our colleagues. Sketch Lap however, teaches participants that few gestural lines with little detail encourages conversation. Tight, rigid sketching does the opposite and deters ideas from forming.

The main objective of Sketch lab is to teach participants how to "sketch to learn," or use sketching as means of gaining knowledge and uncovering new creative ideas.
