The Sigur Ros 'Valtari Mystery Film Experiment' takes the captivating sounds of the band and marries them with stunning visuals of indie film makers.
All given the same budget, a dozen film makers were comissioned to create music videos for tracks from a Sigur Rós album. The artists were given creative freedom, and were simply asked to make visuals for whatever came to mind. Says the band on the reasoning behind this project: "we never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. We don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it."
The results have been phenomenal, and their latest release from the project is no exception. Featuring cinematic capacities that evoke a sense of existential reflection, the just-released video for 'Varúð' by photographer Ryan McGinley is emotive.
It will be fascinating to see the next few releases from the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment.
