SightAware Reads Skin Temperature from Up to Four Feet Away

— April 8, 2026 — Life-Stages
SightAware by Nonnanest is a non-wearable baby monitor that tracks skin temperature—and it works without WiFi, subscriptions or an app. SightAware was born from a personal experience that presented a gap in the market. "When our son was six months old, he woke up in the middle of the night crying, and he was obviously warm," said Founder and CEO Nathan Overbey. "I looked back at the monitor we had and all it could tell me was the room temperature. In that moment I thought, how long had his skin temperature been rising? Why isn't there something that could have told me that? After months of research I realized there was nothing on the market that worked offline, nothing that offered truly secure connectivity, and nothing that didn't require strapping a sensor to the baby. The market doesn't need another high-resolution camera. It needs more awareness."

Like the technology used in pediatric no-touch thermometers, the SightAware nursery camera features a proprietary infrared sensor array to read surface skin temperature contactlessly. From there, video and skin temperature data are transmitted via FHSS, a secure wireless protocol that helps to keep the device offline.
Trend Themes
1. Contactless Health Monitoring - Rising demand for touch-free biometric sensing enables passive tracking of physiological markers like skin temperature at a distance, enabling new device form factors.
2. Offline Secure Iot - A Shift Toward Local, Subscription-Free Connectivity Emphasizes FHSS And Edge Processing For Privacy-Preserving Device Communication.
3. Non-wearable Infant Care Tech - Increasing preference for non-invasive baby monitoring favors camera and sensor systems that avoid straps and wearable discomfort.
Industry Implications
1. Consumer Baby Products - Product lines are being reimagined around convenience and privacy, with standalone monitors that combine thermal sensing and simple user interfaces.
2. Pediatric Healthcare Devices - Clinical settings are showing interest in contactless thermography tools for early intervention without cross-contamination risks.
3. Home Security and Monitoring - Home surveillance is expanding to include sensor fusion beyond video, incorporating physiological data streams for contextual alerts.
