Chubby Bouquet Bottles

The Sid & Chad Vases Display Beautiful Blossoms from Their Big Bellies

The Sid & Chad Vases have a cute quality about them the can be attributed to the often endearing design strategy of personification. These ceramic containers may not have faces, but they do have pudgy pear shapes that look similar to the fat bellies of middle aged men.

Marie Burkhard of New Tendency created a short and a tall version of the vessels that both take the same bulbous shape. From the narrow top of each of the amphorae, a bit of a bend appears to occur in the porcelain material that causes the surface to fold into rolls on one side. The result is an interesting and organic surface treatment that influences the Sid & Chad Vases' slant. The stems that you stuff into them are lightheartedly forced to lean as well.
