The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) recently created an app that puts a creative twist on traditional audio gallery guides. With more museums and galleries interested in incorporating technology into the visitor experience, this initiative demonstrates a unique way of taking storytelling to new heights.
The new SFMOMA app was created by Antenna, which is a world leader when it comes to creating digital content for cultural institutions. The app itself provides consumers with an immersive storytelling experience as told by a variety of eccentric Bay Area characters. These characters help to bring the museum's many collections to life while also helping visitors connect with San Francisco's vibrant culture. As Antenna's senior content designer Christine Murray explains, the app helps to "draw the visitor closer to the art with emotional, authentic experiences."
