Secret Friends Social Features

The Secret Friends List Debuts on Instagram with Selena Gomez

The Secret Friends feature is a new Instagram Stories format introduced through a promotional campaign involving Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Lil Dicky. The feature appears as a yellow ring around a creator’s profile picture, visually similar to the green ring used for Close Friends stories. When followers tap the story, they are presented with exclusive content labeled as part of the Secret Friends group, creating the impression of a private audience segment.

The feature launched on March 3 and was used to promote the Friends Keep Secrets podcast hosted by Benny Blanco alongside Lil Dicky and Kristin Cavallari. Selena Gomez added all of her followers to the Secret Friends group so they could view the stories, making the campaign appear selective while remaining accessible to millions of users. Instagram developed the tool specifically for the campaign, and it is not currently available as a standard feature for other users on the platform.
