Efteling and Vekoma Present the Seat-On-Wheels Concept

— November 4, 2025 — Social Good
The Seat-on-Wheels concept is a collaborative initiative between the Efteling theme park and the ride engineering firm Vekoma. The design is intended to improve accessibility on amusement attractions.

The certified Seat-on-Wheels mechanism is intended to allow a visitor's personal wheelchair to be securely fastened into a ride vehicle, thereby functioning as the ride seat itself. This concept was developed with input from de Zonnebloem, a Dutch disability advocacy organization, and is presented as a component of the companies' broader objectives concerning social sustainability.

Efteling and Vekoma have publicly encouraged other suppliers and theme parks to participate in the further development and implementation of this accessibility concept across the industry. Anne-Mart Agerbeek, CEO of Vekoma Rides, states: "With the seat-on-wheels concept, we want to set a new standard for accessibility within the attractions industry. This is more than just a technical solution. It is an invitation to the entire sector to actively shape inclusivity. We want to inspire and encourage suppliers, parks, and industry peers to contribute ideas and join in development. Because only together can we build a future where experiences are naturally accessible to everyone.”
