Yelp recently indicated it is adding a new search tool to the platform that will enable users to find and support black-owned businesses. Businesses on the platform will be able to mark an organization as black-owned, this label will then be highlighted in searches to inform consumers. The search tool was announced by Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, through a blog post, which also indicated that the platform received a drastic increase in searches for black-owned businesses.
Along with the search tool the company is also making two donations of $500,000, to the Equal Justice Initiative and NAACP Legal Defense Fund respectively. Yelp is also providing more mental health days for employees.
