Curved Back Wooden Chairs

Scally Chair by Julia Kononenko Takes Form from a Classic British Cap

The Scally Chair by Julia Kononenko is a wooden seating design inspired by the shape of a traditional British scally cap. The chair translates the cap’s rounded crown and front visor into a furniture form through curved geometry. The backrest wraps around the seat in a continuous arc, creating an enclosed sitting area. A slight upward curve at the front edge of the seat references the cap’s visor detail.

The chair is constructed from wood, which forms both the structural frame and visible surface. The backrest and seat are shaped with smooth curves that define the overall silhouette. The material introduces natural texture and grain across the surface. Muted color tones are applied to the wood, allowing the form and curvature to remain the primary visual elements.
