Iceland Has Rolled Out Its SAI One Platform

Iceland deployed SAI One across its U.K. store estate, using SAI’s Visual Language Model to turn existing surveillance cameras into active sources of real-time retail intelligence. The platform combines computer vision and generative AI to help the frozen food grocer reduce shrink without adding significant labor or customer friction.

SAI One analyzes live video across checkouts, aisles and entrances to detect issues including missed scans, partial payments, walkouts, concealment, in-store consumption and shelf sweeps. Confirmed alerts are sent to staff handheld terminals within eight seconds, along with relevant imagery and location details. Iceland said the rollout reduced loss by about 80% and cut false alerts by almost 50%, helping drive a 90% response rate to crime alerts.

For retailers, the deployment shows how visual AI can support more proactive loss prevention while reducing time spent responding to false alarms. The approach also frees employees to focus more on operations and customer experience.
