AMD unveiled the first set of CPUs coming to the Ryzen 8000 series, which are the 8040 mobile variants for laptops. This processor series includes a similar spread to the Ryzen 7040 processors from last year, meaning it will have Ryzen 3, 5, 7, and 9 variants, ranging from the 8440U low-power Ryzen 3 processor up to the high-end 8945HS Ryzen 9 processor.
Each processor announced in the 8040 series includes an RDNA 2 iGPU, with the 740M in the low-end models, the 760M in the mid-range models, and the Ryzen 780M in the high-performance cards. The 780M is currently one of the strongest integrated graphics cards on the market, with it being the primary option for dedicated gaming machines such as the ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion GO.
This year, AMD is focusing on artificial intelligence workloads with these CPUs, as every product in the lineup with the exception of the two lowest-end models, the 8440U and 8540U, is equipped with a high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU) built on AMD's 'XDNA' architecture.
