Rock & Republic have unleashed a sinister Spring/Summer 2009 ad campaign under the art direction of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, who is the daughter of the editor of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld.
Even though it is open to interpretation, the ads feature two young people in a hotel room engaging in what appears to be a forbidden relationship.
The campaign was photographed by Maciek Kobielski with models Cartwright Lee and Diana Dondoe.
Implications - Advertising that is infused with scandalous, provocative, or shocking imagery generates widespread buzz in the public sphere which sparks consumption. Consumers are eager to indulge in boundary-pushing art forms or styles that are unconventional because they create an escape from the everyday restrictions that surround daily life.
