Compact Autonomous Farms

Canopii Unveils the Official Canopii Robotic Greenhouse

Canopii introduced a compact robotic greenhouse that autonomously manages the full crop cycle from seeding to harvest. The Portland startup designed the system to grow herbs and specialty leafy greens, featuring automated seeding, environmental controls and harvest robotics in a unit the size of a basketball court. The farms run on standard household power and require only a single spigot of water while producing up to 40,000 pounds of produce per year.

Canopii built its prototype with grant funding and small team iteration, then reached a milestone where the entire process operated without human intervention. The company plans a first commercial installation in downtown Portland and eventual franchising once it's scaled.

For consumers and food businesses, the farms promise localized supply, lower transport emissions and consistent fresh greens, offering a resource-efficient alternative to large vertical farms.

Compact Autonomous Farming
Compact systems that autonomously manage the full crop cycle in a basketball-court footprint, delivering high annual yields with household power and minimal labor.
Water-efficient Controlled Environment Agriculture
Growing techniques that produce tens of thousands of pounds of produce annually from a single spigot of water, dramatically reducing per-unit water use compared with traditional farming.
Modular Franchiseable Greenhouses
Standardized, scalable greenhouse units designed for replication and franchising that allow consistent produce quality and predictable operating metrics across urban sites.

Where This Applies

Urban Retail Grocery
Localized micro-farms supplying fresh, consistent herbs and leafy greens directly to stores, shortening supply chains and improving shelf-life predictability.
Foodservice and Ghost Kitchens
Onsite or nearby compact farms providing reliable, high-turnover greens for restaurants and delivery-first kitchens, reducing dependency on distant suppliers.
Commercial Real Estate and Property Development
Integrating compact autonomous greenhouses into mixed-use developments and rooftops as amenity-driven, energy- and water-efficient installations that alter space utilization models.
