As part of the new MWEB Gadget Genie campaign, Cow South Africa developed a micro site reminiscent of yesteryear’s 8-bit arcade games. The aim is to attract pop tech lovers and ultimately to find South Africa’s gadget guru.
The micro site features a quiz that takes place in a typical platform-game world. Here the player has to face the Evil Dr Floppy and overcome his tough technology questions in a race against time.
For some of today’s technologically inclined, 8-bit gaming was their first real run-in with technology, be it on a Commodore-64, dad’s monochrome 286 Olivetti or at the mall’s gaming arcade.
The idea behind the campaign is to find someone who can help demystify technology in a fun and funky way.
The advert (see film) is not directly related to the campaign, but it rules. The aim is to show what Super Mario Bros would look like on the Atari 2600.
