The idea is to reward careful, slow drivers who approach the speed bump at speeds below 30km/h by giving them a smooth ride over the speed bump; those who exceed this speed will have to suffer the bump.
Finally, an end to spilled drinks and grubby cup holders caused by large unavoidable speed bumps is in sight!
Implications - The goal behind the retractable speed bumps is the reduction of pollution and energy consumption. By encouraging drivers to driver safer and slower, cars will make fewer starts and stops, reducing the car's waste numbers.
