Retinal Surgery Robots

Acusurgical Introduces the Luca™ Robot with Dual-Instrument Functionality

AcuSurgical, a French company specializing in surgical robotics, has completed its first clinical study of AcuSurgical, a French company specializing in surgical robotics, has completed its first clinical study of Luca™, a retinal surgery robot. This innovation is notable for its dual-instrument functionality. It is engineered to enhance precision in vitrectomy procedures, reaching accuracy levels of up to 10 microns compared to the typical 100 microns achievable by human surgeons.

The study, conducted at Gent University Hospital in Belgium, involved seven patients and reported successful outcomes for all surgeries. The Luca™ system's design includes two arms with instrument holders, controlled by a console operated by the surgeon. The retinal surgery robot is said to integrate seamlessly into existing surgical workflows.
