Unilever's three biggest oral care brands are adopting recyclable toothpaste tubes across France and India within the next year. Multinational consumer goods company, Unilever, worked for four years to develop alternative toothpaste technology, which will be made from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), a recyclable plastic.
For now, Signal, Pepsoden, and Closeup are the first to embrace the new technology. The cosmetics maker anticipates expanding the recyclable packaging to other companies as part of its contribution to waste reduction in the industry. Unilever's design is approved by the industry-standard authority for the EU, Asia, and North America RecyClass. This means that the product packaging can be recycled in standard HDPE streams, making it easy for consumers to dispose of the tubes.
