Recyclable Sterile Packaging

SÜDPACK Develops Mono-PE Barriers for Life Sciences

SÜDPACK Medica is introducing recyclable sterile packaging with a polyethylene-only barrier system designed for sensitive life science applications. Unlike conventional films combining polyethylene and polyamide, the new material eliminates several potentially migratable substances while maintaining the strength needed to protect bioprocessing equipment during transportation and storage.

The tubular packaging uses optimized material selection and manufacturing processes to deliver puncture resistance, flexibility, and reliable sealing. Internal assessments indicate compatibility with existing polyethylene recycling streams, with a calculated recyclability rate of 100%. A comparative screening assessment also found more than 50% lower carbon emissions than the conventional multilayer structure examined.

For SÜDPACK Medica, the development could strengthen its position in specialized pharmaceutical packaging. The material offers life science manufacturers an alternative that addresses contamination concerns while supporting sustainability objectives and preparation for evolving regulatory expectations.
