Today we're looking at a pair of social entrepreneurs, one of whom you might be surprised to find on SocialBusiness.org -- Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
The rapper recently joined forces with Chris Clarke, the CEO of Pure Growth Partners, to launch the 50 Cent Street King Energy Shot. Operating on the one-for-one giving model (a concept now globally recognized thanks to TOMS Shoes), each time someone purchases a Street King shot, they buy a meal for a child in need.
The desire to give back on a massive scale arose when 50 went on a trip to Africa for the World Cup and saw poverty first-hand. The partnership with Pure Growth Parters, which "conceives, incubates and launches innovative consumer brands in parternship with the world's leading celebrities," followed shortly after.
Pure Growth Partners focuses on celebrity partnerships using a one-for-one giving model. As for what you're actually buying?
"We believe that if you improve your energy, you gain the power to change bigger things," the site explains. "One 2.5-ounce shot of Street King gives you 6 hours of focus and energy – and it’s the best tasting shot out there."
Not only is the product trendy and his social mission noble, but 50 Cent is also an ambitious entrepreneur, with a five-year goal to feed a billion children. So far (and they only launched in September) they're already at 2.5 million meals!
