The Public School Collection at NYFW 2014 is androgynous and tomboy-inspired. The clever designer duo Dao and Max behind the Public School label wanted to create a tomboy counterpart so that the fashion house could be worn by men and women. The amazingly clean-cut herringbone topcoats, quilted jackets with shearling hood and multi-layered tailoring is beautifully crafted for either gender. The Pilgrim-inspired collection with the broad-brimmed hats is supposed to emulate “new pilgrim” style.
By designing for both genders, the under-the-radar designers are breaking into the world of womenswear and menswear. The mountain boy look and schoolgirl styles are reminiscent of Japanese cult favorite looks. The Public School Collection is making a subtle statement with its urban classic track pants paired with motocross jackets cut from tweed. The layering of the garments is fashion-forward and captures the new pilgrim concept perfectly.
