Experimental Knitwear Series

The Prototype Research_series 09 Presents Air-Blown Laminated Knits

Stone Island Prototype Research_Series 09 is the ninth release in the brand’s ongoing experimental garment program focused on material research and fabrication processes. The series introduces an air-blown lamination technique applied to cotton chenille knit, creating a reversible textile with distinct surface characteristics on each side. One face retains the softness and texture of the knit, while the reverse presents a laminated finish produced through the air-blown process. The series consists of a limited run of hooded cardigans, each produced in a unique colour variation. Garments feature a standard Stone Island badge applied to the sleeve and are manufactured in numbered quantities.

Prototype Research_Series 09 was presented during Milan Fashion Week as part of a dedicated installation that highlighted the material development behind the garments. The Prototype Research program operates as a non-industrial line, producing small batches that explore fabric innovation before wider application. Each piece is released as a finished garment derived directly from research outcomes rather than seasonal collection development.
