The Portable Eye Examination Kit or 'Peek' is a method of carrying out eye tests that is designed for use in remote, isolated areas in poorer regions of the world. Not only is this kit portable, convenient and inexpensive, but it is also just as accurate as conventional eye testing methods.
Peek was developed by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in collaboration with the NHS Glasgow Centre for Ophthalmic Research.
Peek co-founder Dr. Andrew Bastawrous points out that given that a disproportionately large amount of the world's blind people live in low-income countries, it is extremely important that tools be developed that improve the quality of early detection tests, whilst also facilitating treatment referral. That being the case, it only makes sense to leverage mobile platforms to improve vision care for all.
