Walmart and Sam’s Club Pilot Express In-Store Vision Kiosks

Walmart and Sam’s Club introduced “eye bot” kiosks that deliver rapid vision screenings inside select U.S. stores. The pilot placed the self-service units in 16 locations split between Walmart Vision Centers and Sam’s Club optical centers, offering a basic eye exam in about 15 minutes without needing a traditional appointment.

Each kiosk is set up as a compact station within the existing optical departments, guiding users through a short, automated exam workflow. At Sam’s Club, members can access the exam at no cost, while Walmart shoppers pay a flat $25 fee. The devices are being tested in real retail environments to gauge throughput, user comfort, and integration with existing optical services.

By embedding vision testing alongside weekly shopping trips, Walmart and Sam’s Club lower time and cost barriers for basic eye care—aligning with tech-enabled health services appearing in big-box stores, where scale and foot traffic can accelerate adoption of convenient, self-guided diagnostics.
