YPlasma Debuts a Prototype of Its DBD Plasma Actuators

YPlasma, a technology company specializing in solid-state thermal management, will be presenting a significant engineering advancement with the first-ever application of its Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) plasma actuators at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

YPlasma employs the Dielectric Barrier Discharge plasma actuators to dissipate heat within portable computers. This approach completely eschews conventional rotary fans, instead employing an electrically induced ionic wind generated from an exceptionally thin, flexible film. YPlasma maintains that this is "a breakthrough in form factor" as the thin film can measure as little as 200 microns in thickness, which will allow the component to be "integrated directly onto heat sinks, chassis walls, or internal components." The design is promoted as fundamentally noiseless, free from harmful byproducts, and capable of both removing and applying heat.
