The Palau apartment, owned by an Italian fashion designer, is a "clean and contemporary" dwelling in Barcelona, located near the Palau de la Música concert hall. The space was renovated by the local studio Colombo and Serboli Architecture which embraced a wabi-sabi philosophy for the interior. In Japanese tradition, wabi-sabi is centered on imperfection and transience. It is an aesthetic built around balance and acceptance. For the firm, employing wabi-sabi was complimentary to the charm of the dwelling. Since Colombo and Serboli Architecture embraced this philosophy, the imperfections in the Palau apartment's original features are tastefully called attention to.
From the 3.5 meter bookshelf in the living room to the hollow steps in the staircase that act as storage, the practice struck a beautiful balance between the existing and new features of the Palau apartment.
