These Opening Ceremony jackets were made in commemoration of the cultural diversity that the brand aims to promote though its apparel. As it is reaching its 15th anniversary this year, the brand decided to release the 'Global Varsity' collection, with a total of 47 jackets making it up.

The brand's founders, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, described the motive behind the new Opening Ceremony jackets by saying, "We wanted to celebrate the fact that the America we know is comprised of a diverse and expansive group of nations" and, "To do so through our iconic varsity jacket felt like a perfect way to highlight each country’s unique attributes – through color, symbols and patterns." In addition to the jackets, the brand released a series of t-shirts, jersey dresses, sweatshirts and baseball caps to go along with the designs.
