Personalized Audio Designs

The ONCE Headphone Concept by Bas Kamp Introduces a Custom-Fit Approach

Designer Bas Kamp created ONCE as a headphone concept inspired by Bang & Olufsen’s tradition of combining audio technology with industrial design. The concept centers on a continuous headband and a pair of cylindrical aluminum earcups that reference classic over-ear headphone architecture. The design is intended to be calibrated once for a single user through a threaded adjustment system integrated into Bang & Olufsen’s signature circular fastening detail. After the initial setup, the headphones maintain a personalized fit tailored to the wearer.

The concept pairs machined aluminum with leather contact surfaces, emphasizing material contrast and long-term ownership. A cylindrical charging base supports the headphones when not in use, allowing them to rest in a sculptural arc that doubles as a display object. ONCE also proposes an integrated AI-powered translation feature activated through the central fastening element, enabling real-time conversational translation through the headphones.
