Bruichladdich Distillery's Octomore 17 Series is an annual set of four experimental single-malt whiskies built around super-heavily peated barley, younger age statements and bottlings at or near cask strength. The lineup is designed to probe how barley origin, peat level and cask maturation shape flavour while keeping balance from the distillery's tall, narrow-necked stills.
The four expressions include Octomore 17.1, distilled from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley malted to 81 PPM and matured in first-fill bourbon barrels; 17.2, finished in first-fill Port after time in second-fill French oak; and 17.3, a single-farm, single-vintage whisky peated to 132.1 PPM matured in a mix of bourbon, Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein and Syrah casks. Octomore 17.4 is malted to 108.2 PPM, matured in Oloroso and finished in French virgin oak.
Each malt is non-chill filtered, has no added color and was matured and bottled on Islay using Octomore spring water. For drinkers, the series foregrounds traceable barley and bold peat while offering distinct cask-driven profiles to compare side by side. As a limited annual lineup, it emphasizes provenance and experimental maturation choices for collectors and aficionados.
