The New Opel Astra is Lighter and More Efficient Than Its Predecessors

The Opel Astra has been around for nearly a quarter of a century, but isn't shy about reinventing itself, as best exemplified by the new Opel Astra. The hatchback market is more competitive than ever before, and this has led Opel to create a vehicle that is ultra light and efficient.

The highlight feature of the new Opel Astra is its light weight. Its bodyshell is as much as 20% lighter, while the use of ultra-high strength steel in the chassis means this vehicle is between 120 and 200 kg lighter than the car it replaces. The exterior is also smaller. However, despite being 5 cm shorter in length and 2.6 cm shorter in height, it is actually bigger on the inside, and offers passengers an extra 1.4 inches of legroom.

Despite the reduced size, the car packs better tech features on the inside than ever before. This, coupled with its light weight, make it the perfect modern urban hatchback.
