Netflix is launching a new gaming studio in Southern California, highlighting the media company’s versatility and willingness to experiment in different areas. As confirmed by Netflix’s VP of gaming, Mike Verdu, the new studio will recruit former Blizzard vice president and Overwatch boss Chako Sonny in its operations. As Netflix looks to increase its presence in the gaming community, the company is rumored to pioneer a cloud gaming platform to bolster its reach and make gaming on its platform “a natural way to play.”
“It’s a value add,” said Verdu. “We’re not asking you to subscribe as a console replacement. It’s a completely different business model. The hope is over time that it just becomes this very natural way to play games wherever you are.”
