To celebrate the 2017 Singapore Food Festival, McDonald's recently rolled out an exclusive new sandwich dubbed the 'Nasi Lemak' burger. Featuring the fragrant taste of coconut and a crispy cereal coating, the new burger is a far cry from a traditional Big Mac.
The Nasi Lemak burger is a chicken sandwich made with unexpected toppings. The patty itself is made from coconut-flavored chicken thighs that have been coated with corn flake cereal bits. The patty is then paired with a spicy sambal sauce, caramelized onions, a fried egg and cool cucumber slices. The whole thing is served on a lightly toasted semolina bun to top off the unexpected flavor combination.
While the coconut-flavored creation may sound unusual to North American consumers, the burger is actually based on a popular Malay dish of the same name, which consists of rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf.
