Heatherwick Studio and JINS Created the Movement of Liquid Eyewear Collection

— May 26, 2026 — Art & Design
Heatherwick Studio collaborated with Japanese eyewear brand JINS on the Movement of Liquid collection, a series of glasses shaped through fluid metallic contours and asymmetrical frame geometry. The collection translates the appearance of moving liquid into eyewear through curved bridge sections, softened edges, and irregular frame lines extending across both optical and sunglass styles. The project marks Heatherwick Studio’s first eyewear collaboration.

The collection combines lightweight metal construction with sculpted frame profiles that avoid conventional straight-line geometry. Several models incorporate rounded hinge transitions, flowing temple arms, and continuous curved surfaces designed to resemble molten material captured in motion. JINS developed the frames across multiple color finishes including silver, gold, and darker metallic tones paired with tinted and clear lens configurations.

Trend Themes

  1. Liquid-form Aesthetics — Fluid, molten-inspired silhouettes enable a new visual language for personal accessories that blurs sculpture and function, prompting reconsideration of product identity in everyday wearables.
  2. Asymmetrical Frame Geometry — Irregular, non-linear frame profiles open possibilities for individualized fit and expressive design systems that depart from standardized bilateral symmetry.
  3. Metallurgical Finish Customization — Variable metallic tones and surface treatments create opportunities for tiered personalization and perceived value differentiation across mass-market and premium offerings.

Industry Implications

  1. Eyewear-and-fashion — Designer collaborations that merge architectural practice with eyewear production could redefine brand partnerships and consumer expectations for innovation-led style.
  2. Luxury-accessories Manufacturing — Precision metalworking and micro-forming techniques present a pathway for premium accessory makers to offer sculpted, high-margin products with artisanal appeal.
  3. Materials-science-and-metal-3d-printing — Advances in additive manufacturing and lightweight metal alloys support the creation of complex, continuous-curved components that challenge traditional mold-based production constraints.
