Artistic Animal Traps

Mousetraps No. 3, 14 and 18 are Made for Genetically Modified Mice

As effective as traditional mousetraps may be, the Mousetraps No. 3, 14 and 18 series shows that what they don't lack in functionality, they lack in form. As iconic as the wooden base and metal arm is, these animal traps have been begging for a reinterpretation for years. Designer and recent graduate Johanna Schmeer has decided to oblige.

The Mousetraps No. 3, 14 and 18 series is, as the name suggests, made up of three very different designs. Each one has been tailored to genetically modified mice, all of which exist in research laboratories today. For instance, the 'waltzing mouse' runs in circles due to an inner ear imbalance with an inability to walk backwards or turn around. This side effect is addressed by the winding transparent pipe with a closed end.
