Cucumber, assorted melon balls and mint are elements of a classic melon salad, but The First Mess gives them a refreshing twist by cutting through the sweetness with savory balsamic vinegar, basil and red onion.
In order for the flavor to be dispersed evenly, the salad is prepared on a flat serving dish, where balsamic vinegar is spread out generously. As Laura of The First Mess blog describes, "The idea is that, with every scoop of salad, a little vinegar catches on the bottom of the serving over to the plate." On top of this, sliver thin slices of cucumber and red onion are mixed with fresh scoops of watermelon and honeydew. Rich in texture and flavor, the recipe is finished off with a few fresh herb leaves and flowers as a garnish.
