OmniVision has recently been awarded a Guinness World Record for its new medical image sensor, which is now officially recognized as the smallest ever image sensor. OmniVision’s medical image sensor has been measured at half a millimeter squared.
However, the medical image sensor has a much more important application than winning records. Aaron Chiang, the OmniVision marketing director, states that the new image sensor will play an important role in the medical field, as it can offer a, "compact, high quality solution for disposable guidewires.” Chiang latter states that this will increase efficiency in the health care industry, while also providing high-quality images. This is because many medical procedures rely on image sensors, and previous versions were larger and less cost-effective.
