'Fair Harbor Clothing' recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for a line of board shorts that are made out of plastic waste. In many coastal communities, plastic waste represents a major threat to the ecosystem. This company is putting plastic to good use by turning it into functional and stylish swimwear.
Fair Harbor Clothing is an eco-friendly, active lifestyle brand that produces garments made out of plastic waste. More specifically, the company manufactures stylish board shorts out of plastic bottles as a way of keeping excess plastic out of the ocean. Each pair of board shorts is made from 11 plastic bottles that have been broken down and woven into a polyester fiber. Despite the unusual use of material, the board shorts are comfortable and stylish enough to wear all day long.
The upcycled board shorts are indicative of a larger movement towards more sustainable textiles and eco-friendly manufacturing processes.
