The Lunar Stool may look like it was made with extraterrestrials in mind, perhaps to welcome them with a comfy and somewhat familiar seat when scientists and explorers finally come across an alien race, but it was really created for humans. The name of the Lunar Stool was simply taken from the appearance of its texture, which is rough with craters just like the moon.
Designed by Jamie Wolfond, the Lunar Stool is made out of expanding foam, which gained its texture by being cured in a run-of-the-mill rubber balloon. The bulbous seat has been placed on top of three matchstick-like legs.
The Lunar Stool was presented at RISD Furniture Design department's Transformations exhibition earlier this year.
