Herman Miller's Live OS Gives Companies Insight on Their Spaces

Live OS, a new collection from furniture brand Herman Miller, is looking to transfer technology from one arena to another. For all the excitement around connected homes, little has been done to bring the same technology to the second place where people spend most of their time: the office. Live OS applies IFTTT and connected devices to office furniture, giving employees a more personalized work environment and letting employers understand how their spaces are used.

Live OS essentially consists of an app and software platform, sets of sensors, and sit-to-stand electronic desks. The sensors come stock with the Herman Miller desks, and they can also be retrofitted onto any desk or furniture currently in the workspace. On stationary desks, the sensors track when employees are using the space, and with the adjustable desks, the sensors can automatically set the desk to that specific worker's preferred sitting or standing height.
