Little Village Lantern Detroit is a Sound Office project designed by architecture studio OMA in Detroit. The structure serves as a flexible office and event space developed as part of the Little Village initiative. The building is defined by a tall, translucent exterior made from polycarbonate panels mounted to a steel frame, allowing daylight to pass through the envelope and create a glowing appearance when illuminated at night. Large openings and pivoting doors connect the interior directly to the surrounding site.
The interior is organized as an open-plan volume intended to support multiple uses, including workspaces, events, exhibitions, and performances. Permanent partitions are minimized, with furniture and temporary installations used to configure the space as needed. Structural elements, lighting systems, and mechanical components remain exposed throughout the interior. The project was developed to support adaptable programming and shared use within the Little Village initiative’s broader community-focused framework.
