The Little Giant forest studio occupies a 967-square-foot site on a forested peninsula outside Victoria, British Columbia, where the two-level building is elevated above moss-covered ground and oriented toward Saanich Inlet. Completed in 2024, the structure was originally planned as a flexible two-bedroom studio before becoming the firm's own workplace. A recessed concrete base anchors the lower level into the hillside, while cantilevered beams and parallel trusses support an open upper floor with minimal interior walls. An elevated walkway leads to the entrance, reinforcing the treehouse-like composition.
Cedar siding and operable screening wrap the upper volume, allowing occupants to adjust privacy, daylight, and views throughout the day. The dark exterior references regional timber buildings and blends with the surrounding Douglas fir and cedar canopy, while hemlock ceilings and vein-cut titanium travertine define the restrained interior palette. The vertically organized layout places the kitchen, dining area, living room, guest room, and powder room upstairs, with the primary suite, laundry, storage, and mechanical spaces embedded within the lower level.
