For the winter season, Cafe Demitasse in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo neighborhood serves an aromatic lavender hot chocolate.
The 'Lavender Liquid Hot Chocolate' was invented by owner Bobby Roshan and includes a base of drinking chocolate, dark chocolate powder, milk, vanilla bean sugar and pure lavender extract. To prepare, Cafe Demitasse keeps a pot of drinking chocolate heating on the counter and then adds pure lavender extract and a giant toasted marshmallow to the comforting seasonal beverage when an order has been placed. The resulting lavender-infused drinking chocolate is so rich that it's only served in small eight-ounce cups at a time.
Many conscious consumers are now seeking out botanical ingredient infusions in food and beverages as a means of satisfying their desires for health and palate-pleasing flavors at once.
