With the La-Rosa magazine rack, designer Dongsung Jung has taken an opportunity to marry art and practical object. When it comes down to it, the storage of newspapers and books can be facilitated quite simply, yet we're presented here with an abstract sculpture that aptly fulfills this function. One can stash and spread materials within it.
The "house of one rose" inspiration comes from the way that layers of inward-curling petals form the distinctive flower. In this imaginative model, three curvaceous pieces of plastic curl around one another, progressively increasing in height towards the core. Manufactured as semicircles, the sections are intended to meet the wall so that the brightly colored La-Rosa magazine rack appears to bloom from the side of the room.
