Open-Ended Children's Toys

The Knotty Toy Allows for Free Expression Through Electrical Connection

Designed to encapsulate the "free, explorative and iterative process" of play, the Knotty toy collection helps train and engage children for a future of innovation. Designed by Saki Maruyama and Daniel Coppen, this unique toy collection features a push button, shake sensor and sound sensor, each of these items can then be connected by a "special rope" to three outputs. The outputs include a motor, LED light and a buzzer.

The connection made using the "special rope" creates an electric current and allows the two pieces of the toy collection to interact. The rope can be used with all the Knotty toy pieces and is meant to encourage innovation through experimentation. The inherent open nature of the Knotty toy allows for free play and is meant to help children develop creativity and personal interests.
