I've been a huge fan of Jeff Simpson's work for quite some time now, and I figured it's time I stopped keeping him a secret from the world since his talent is so prodigious it needs to be shared with everyone.
A Montreal-based concept artist, Jeff Simpson is a master of digital artistry and he specializes in human portraiture mixed with dark fantastical elements. His piece entitled 'Motte' is especially impressive as it harnesses lighting effects which invoke a dreamlike quality. Having a knife stabbed through a human skull is also one of my worst nightmares, so that probably explains why I equate this image so much with dreaming.
Implications - Consumers are fascinated with morbid imagery because it offers them an escapist experience. They're appreciative of this because it acts as a coping mechanism for the stresses of everyday life. Corporations looking to convey an air of mystery while simultaneously garnering much consumer attention may consider using macabre graphics in their promotional campaigns.
