Heritage Reform Museums

The Jadids’ Legacy Museum by Lina Ghotmeh Honours Jadidism Heritage

The Jadids’ Legacy Museum by Lina Ghotmeh will transform the historic home of Usmon Khodjaev in Bukhara into a cultural destination dedicated to the ideas and impact of Jadidism. The project is set to open in 2027 and is commissioned by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation. Jadidism was a reform movement that promoted modern education, social renewal, and placing women at the forefront of change across Central Asia.

The museum occupies a residence adjacent to Lyabi-Hauz, Bukhara’s seventeenth-century square. The design weaves historical memory into contemporary architecture under Ghotmeh’s “archaeology of the future” approach. It aims to invite reflection through adaptive reuse, preserving original structure and setting while introducing new spatial flows that support learning and engagement. This museum adds to Uzbekistan’s growing cultural infrastructure and exemplifies how architecture can connect past reform with present identity.
