Instance BV is the architectural studio behind the new series of scaled-down power plants installed across North America, Europe, and Asia. The architects collaborated with power company GE Hitachi to designed the BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs).
The SMRs are smaller and updated versions of traditional nuclear power plants to offer cost-competitive ways to create electricity. Instance BV is advising GE Hitachi on the building layouts and configurations for potential sites. The companies will build modernized nuclear power plants with modular components. With fewer construction materials, the plants' construction time is significantly reduced. The SMRs are set to deploy on selected sites as early as 2028. This rollout aims to provide countries with the means to meet their decarbonization goals through renewable energy.
