Social media may one day overtake literature but the New York Public Library is hoping to strike a balance between both mediums in its new reimagining of Instagram Stories, known as Insta Novels. Available on the library's Instagram account, with the first piece of literature introduced will be 'Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. Accompanying the novel will be a collection of illustrations done by established designer Magoz. Future works featured on Insta Novels will include 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman with illustrations by Buck, and 'The Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka with illustrations by César Pelizer.
When creating the concept for Insta Novels the New York Public Library worked with advertising and creative agency, Mother in New York. The decision to work with Mother in New York was decided as this company was just as adamant about preserving literature by leveraging social technology.
